Pray that they may feel His presence in a special way and continue to love Him and serve Him in the future. Please pray with thanksgiving that we are blessed with our dedicated Catechists, who nurture them so beautifully.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) - Year B.

Readings: Exodus 24:3-8; Psalm 115:12-13,15-16,17-18; Hebrews 9:11-15; Mark 14:12-16,22-26

Jesus, as he promised after miraculously feeding the five thousand, is fully, substantially and really present in the Holy Eucharist. Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist during the Last Supper to unite himself with us for ever. Jesus asked his Disciples to repeat it in his memory to make the gift of Himsel a reality, that is continuously available to us. Today's feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus calls us to become a sacrificial love for others. The feast for us is an opportunity to give thanks to God for Christ's abiding presence with us in the Eucharist and to honour His gift of Himself and love.

First Reading: The reading describes how God established a Covenant with the Israelites. They were made God's special people through the Covenant. "I will be your God and you will be My people."

Second Reading: Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant. The New Covenant is eternally sealed, and recalled whenever the Eucharist is celebrated and we receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

Gospel Reading: Jesus replaced Moses as the mediator, establishing the New Covenant promised through the prophets by using his own Blood rather than that of sacrificial animals. By sacramentally consuming the Body and Blood of Jesus we are in union with God. Jesus creates a new people of God by means of His gift of the Eucharist.

Responsorial Psalm: The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord's name.

There will be no Children's Liturgy or Confirmation preparation on Sunday, 2nd June

SEA SUNDAY Second collection 14th July

Please note that Sea Sunday will be on 14th July this year. It is when you are asked to encourage prayer and financial contributions to support the work of Stella Maris, the official maritime charity of the Catholic Church. This mandatory second collection is vital for the future of Stella Maris and its support of seafarers and fishers in the UK and around the world.

AMEN

The Fathers of the Church, especially St. Augustine in the fourth and fifth centuries, taught

about the importance of the "Amen," as we receive the Blessed Sacrament. We are asserting

our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist; we are saying "Yes" to Jesus

who desires union with us. "Amen" means "I believe." We had to be silent in the pandemic

but on this great feast day of the Body and Blood of Christ, our "Amen" should be loud and clear!

Thank you, Our collections 19/5/24. Loose Offertory 244.07. Envelopes 79.00

26/5/24. Loose Offertory 202.59. Envelopes 131.69. The standing orders 408.15 per week.

The Eucharist

St. Thomas said the Eucharist is the one instance of change we encounter in this world that is exactly the opposite. The appearances of bread and wine stay the same, but the very essence or substance of these realities, which can't be detected by a microscope, is totally transformed. What was once bread and wine are now Christ's body and blood. A handy word was coined to describe this unique change. Transformation of the "sub-stance," what "stands under" the surface, came to be called "transubstantiation."

New Lectionary

If you are thinking of buying a Sunday or Weekday Missal for someone, make sure it is a new one as the readings at Mass are all changing on the first Sunday of Advent this year. This new edition will use the English Standard Version Catholic Edition of the Bible. The prayers of the Mass will not change. Sunday Missals will be available to buy in October 2024 and Weekday Missals in April 2025.
